the waterfall pavilion leads the visitors underneath the sea-level – on a journey to the confluence of water and art: exhibition zones are divided by waterfalls, sculptures are framed by an interactive play of water, videos are projected on `liquified´ walls. water becomes the main initiator for the conceptual frame of both exhibition and space.
the pavilion consists of a steel basin, comparable to a ships bow with a water ballast tank to equilibrate the buoyant force. the shape of the skin is derived from a wave model. various wave radiuses define the exhibition spaces and create different typologies for the artists to place their artworks. the passages and overhangs generate waterfalls, that descend in various sizes and intensities. the waterfalls interfere with the artworks or just frame them, depending on the intention of the artist.
our aim is to define a new relation between space, water and art, using the physical principal of ships and transforming water into a dominant spatial and curative element of the pavilion.
